War and memory
The main focus of this thesis is the concept of memory and how it varies through individuals from different social backgrounds, who were affected by the same historical event. A person’s age, gender, work, education and family context are all major factors in their perception of observed reality Through deep interviewing of these different, unique and separate individuals, we are able to construct a bigger picture and a comprehensive understanding of the events that happened in 99s Yugoslavia, when the NATO airstrikes occurred, and to access how it affected public memory. These events had a great impact on the country, and are holding a lot of questions that are still unanswered today. The stories of the victims are similar, yet unique in their own ways. Thanks to the diversity of both individuals and stories, we are able to compare a great amount of information, allowing us to understand the complexity of human memory functions.

Merciful Angel
“Merciful Angel” is a short 9-minute animated documentary about the NATO airstrikes witch occurred in 1999 in the former republic of Yugoslavia. We are able to get a glimpse of the events through the eyes of two young boys and their family. Through the combination of 3D animation and 2D rotoscopy, we are able to observe anatomically correct characters in a documentary manner, and dream sequences that are able to convey the fear that came with the war situation unfolding. The movie was inspired by interviews, in witch the subjects participating were able to tell their own stories. These stories were than put together, building up to a visual narrative thats understandable even for those who never experienced a similar situation.
