Mouth hero – Audioresponsive speech development application for children with multiple disabilities
“Mouth hero” is an interactive speech development application based on voice recognition technology. During articulatory movement development exercises, the child, i.e. the „mouth hero”, performs heroic deeds with his voice. The aim of the game is to evoke the function pleasure associated with sounding and to create situations that encourage sounding. The exercises were born from the rethinking of mouth images and caller images used in speech therapy development. Animated lip and tongue exercises help to master movement patterns and regulate the tone of the speech organs. During interactive sound imitation exercises, children gain experience of the power of their own voice. The interactive messaging function, which develops visual motor skills and is connected to a drawing interface, provides an opportunity for individual communication and connection of healthy and disabled children. The unassisted use of the application is supported by a number of functions that take into account the cognitive and locomotor impairments of children with multiple disabilities. When I was planning Mouth hero, it was an important aspect for me to think of the digital device and the development game as a unit, because the game will be a tool to support their lifestyle and communication in the foreseeable future.
