The theoretical background and practice-based experiences of the "Paperobjects" pedagogical programme
In my thesis, I try to prove that making paper objects is an excellent way to promote the aspirations of STEAM pedagogy and to develop spatial perception. These pedagogical aspirations are converging as they seek the links between arts and sciences. This is one of the major pedagogical trends of our time. However, within both trends, it was the natural sciences that have dominated and continue to dominate. STEAM was originally STEM, i.e. the integrated teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and it was extended to include Arts only a few years ago. But arts tend to play a secondary role in the cooperation. Efforts to develop a better spatial vision also primarily emphasise the mathematical and engineering benefits. The innovation I see in Paper Objects is that it places the emphasis on art within the collaboration with natural sciences.
