masterwork
urban robinsonade
My masterwork is the creation of a base for an independent artistic association for an unspecified period of time. It is a snapshot of the birth of a place the forerunners of which were the community-based centres and creative workshops that had been created in an underused part of the city through the already well-known and popular civil partnerships. Following the example of these, the base of the association seeks to create the necessary and sufficient conditions for operation by offering alternative, often improvised interventions, known from the tools of spontaneous architecture, while providing space for the productive incompleteness.
thesis
Open structures
The dissertation examines the emergence of different spontaneous, here and now available, DIY-like attitudes and tools in architecture. I assume that the seemingly chaotic, fast-paced processes of globalization, networking, and technology which determine today’s life, also have an impact on the architectural toolbox. In my dissertation I am looking for architectural solutions – appearing to be a perceived or real need behind them – that integrate openness, fragmentation and incompleteness into the process of creation in a planned way. Those solutions that realize the architectural examples of spontaneous solutions that convey the imprint of their uniqueness specifically here and now. For the search I used Umberto Eco’s concept of the “open work”.
