masterwork
The masterwork explores the story and loss experiences of Daryna Tyshcenko in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The security provided by our home has been overridden by the terrible situation in the neighbouring country, as hundreds of thousands of people have lost their homes, their security and their peace of mind. For the remainder of the project, the designer provided a platform for Daryna, fleeing from the war, to share her experiences and terrible, realistic realities with fellow students and the university community. The project is based on three key concepts, past, present and future. Through a personal story, he shows how the war took away people’s past, present, and future. This is how the three rugs were made, through the softness of which we face harsh reality. In addition, a diary-like publication in the form of a newspaper was produced - a medium reflecting on the questionability of the authenticity of the news - with Daryna's thoughts and pictures, straight from Ukraine.

Investigating the possibilities of thematic carpets
Rugs made with tufting technique enjoy a huge fan base, not only when it comes to making them, but also in decorating our homes. As a graphic artist, breaking away from digital and amplifying manual activities always gives a reassuring outlook. In my dissertation I examine carpet making, mapping the spaces of our home and the relationship between text, touch and materials through general and contemporary examples, as well as participatory, engaging tools, examining the experiences and needs of users to create a design object on the border of fine art and practical use.
