On the freedom of the photographer
In my thesis I explore the photographer's freedom of decision in a world in which apparatuses dominate. How can a photographer be free with his or her camera, which has a specific impact through its users? It is important to look beyond the limits of the camera and the image it creates, and to look critically at the world around us. In my thesis I seek answers to this question by reading Immanuel Kant's “An Answer to the Question: What is Enlightenment", by analysing the work of philosopher and writer Vilém Flusser on "The Philosophy of Photography", and by examining the works of photographer and media artist Andreas Müller-Pohle from 1976 to 1991.
