The evolution of bicycle aesthetics with the example of full suspension mountain bikes
Bicycles: utilitarian objects with a simple frame structure. For some people they are a practical means of transport, for others they are an essential sporting tool, as is the case with professional mountain bikes. Mountain bikes are subject to enormous stresses and strains due to the terrain, so a design that is primarily functional and efficiency-oriented may be the most rational choice for manufacturers and designers. However, trends show that these mountain bikes also incorporate elements that are less explainable in terms of functionality. My hypothesis is that these elements serve the aesthetics of the bikes, so that this dimension is included in the design alongside functionality. To prove my hypothesis, I will illustrate this trend in 2 different areas: the design of bridges as well as the design of cars.
