In the first part of my thesis the main goal is to discover and define the situation of postcolonial discourse and theory. I understand it is important to define such topics as colonial background, the rewriting of history and the development of metanarratives. In the second part of my thesis I would like to shift the focus to the postcolonialist oeuvres of Claire Denis. I will try to discover the importance and the effects of Denis’ films to the contemporary European identity of cinema.
