Analysing Feminism in Animation Through Hayao Miyazaki’s Heroines & Arguing Against McCarthy’s Teenage Wildlife

My thesis responds to Helen McCarthy’s criticism of the representation of women in Hayao Miyazaki’s films, examining what can be considered feminism in his animation and situating this within a broader cultural context.
