The poetics of the constructed space

The masterwork is an experimental book object seeking to answer the question what possibilities the materiality and structure of the book hold from a narrative perspective. The project is inspired by a quote from Alison Smithson, a prominent figure in Brutalism: “For us, a book is a small building.” Following this idea, the aim is to transcend the boundaries of the book, integrating architectural analogies both in form and content. The central text of the publication is J. G. Ballard's short story, "High- Rise," in which the built environment and narrative are closely intertwined with the human psyche. The book has a modular structure: it is composed of separate units that form a system when stacked, and these building blocks symbolise the levels and features of the characters.
thesis

The poetry of constructed space

The aesthetics and philosophy of brutalism

The thesis focuses on brutalism in architecture and culture and examines the impacts of the radical reinvention of the built environment on the individuals and the community. In addition, I examine interactions through other disciplines of art and other media to explore to what extent the stylistic elements of brutalism can be integrated into other design areas and what opportunities they offer in interdisciplinary design.
