From art theory to educational management

Due to my knowledge of art theory and social studies from my BA in Design Culture, I imagined myself as a curator or researcher after completing my master’s degree. However, by the beginning of my third MA year, I found myself working as a project manager in the field of education, strongly questioning the identity I had gained in the previous professional experiences. My portfolio illustrates the process of finding my way back to film, curation and archival research, drawing from my experiences in exhibition organizing, the film industry, and the area of social design and inclusive education.

The films of the Black Box Foundation’s Roma Media School within the contemporary art discourse

My thesis outlines how the films of the Black Box Foundation’s Roma Media School, which are currently part of the Vera and Donald Blinken Open Society Archives, could be reintroduced into the artistic discourse 20 years after the programme had ended. Firstly, I examine the significance of the Black Box Foundation within the Hungarian regime change. Then I explore how the Foundation turned towards the representation of marginalized communities through the training of young Roma media professionals. I then explore the circumstances of the creation, purpose and training structure of the Community Television School and the Roma Media School, followed by exploring why it is relevant to examine the collection in an artistic context today. Finally, through the concept of an exhibition, I suggest how the films created between 2001-2004 could be reintroduced into the artistic discourse today.
