Integrating sustainable pedagogy into art education

Its manifestations in secondary schools of fashion and textile design

In my thesis, I explore the representation and possibilities of sustainability in art education through the specialisation of fashion and textile design. The reason for this is the increasingly critical role of the sustainable approach in our future, the principles and competences of which we need to acquire. The textile industry is a key industry in terms of sustainability, with a significant environmental impact, and its designers need to be equipped with the necessary knowledge to shape their profession in line with sustainable values and thus create a sustainable future. To assess the situation in Hungary, I sought the views of specialist instructors through questionnaires and examined to what extent they are open to integrating sustainability and what would help them to do so. Then, after reviewing some good practices in sustainable pedagogy, I prepared and partially tested a project plan for a sustainability theme week.
