Sphere

In my masterwork, I design a light installation, with the aim to create a complex light, object and space experience by incorporating the material of glass and building on its optical possibilities. The interaction of light and glass creates a unique atmosphere in the created space. The refraction of light through the glass creates kaleidoscope-like effects, and the surfaces of the glass affect the formation of shadows. The complex glass sculpture placed in the space connects with the light and uses its changing rhythm, which adds a temporal dimension to the piece: the viewer sees not only a static image, but a constantly changing space.

Light and creativity

The evolution and current trends of light art

The aim of my thesis is to describe the emergence and evolution of light art. In the introduction I lay the foundations for understanding light art and its history, pointing out the impact of art forms and trends that have evolved over time. Then I move on to the role of technological developments and the impact they have had on creators. Another chapter deals with innovations and the development of tools, highlighting how light art has been transformed by technological advancement. In the second part I analyse four light artists, presenting a typical piece by each of them. My aim is to understand the creative thinking process and the factors that had an effect on their artistic choices. The focus is on the creative process, the sources of inspiration and the distinctive style of the artists. The research for my thesis is based on literature and my experiences at the two exhibitions the Light Art Museum in Budapest has had to date.
