Posters promoting socialism
Advertising and propaganda posters in the Kádár era, 1957-1979
In my thesis I explore the interdisciplinary quality of posters as a genre and their key role in socialist popular education, everyday life and culture. In my research I classified the posters in the collection of the Hungarian National Gallery into thematic groups and analysed them to examine the cultural policy and social issues of the early Kádár era from the perspective of everyday life, and to explore the efforts made to influence people’s lifestyle through state propaganda.
