New perspectives in food preservation

My masterwork is a kitchen storage unit designed to help organise our food, extend its shelf life, and maintain its quality. This is a modular system inspired by traditional storage and preservation methods, along with the associated material culture, which also meets the expectations of modern households. The modules can be adapted to the needs of different types of food and do not require electricity. With these modules, we can integrate traditional knowledge which is crucial for our food to be more appreciated, and to be preserved and consumed in the best possible quality.

Reducing food waste with a design-oriented approach

In my thesis, I explore household consumption habits from the aspect of food waste. This includes the examination of various food preservation and food storage practices. In my research I explore the topic by examining related phenomena, methods, material culture and their evolution, then I provide a comparison with the solutions we know today. My focus is defined by design perspectives, since, as a designer, I feel the responsibility to understand which potential design-oriented solutions can provide an answer to the global problem of food waste.
