Budapest_TREKK

The masterwork is a tourism extension for Budapest which provides users with additional experience, allowing them to seek information purposely and learn about current events in the city. The plugin would be embedded in the BudapestGo app and from there it would redirect the user to a similar site focusing on tourism and experiences. Using the app would also come with rewards, with various souvenir items and personalised generated graphics of the route taken in the city. All this helps users deepen their connection with the city, increases their interest in local events and enhances the conscious interaction between physical and digital space.

Seeking connection in the flood of information

In my thesis I describe the concept of building connections in the urban environment flooded with visual information and I reflect, in particular, on stickers, now widespread in the public spaces in downtown Budapest, as information carriers and means of expression. I address various issues of urban anthropology including the significance of subjective perception in orientation, and the meaning of super-organisms and how to find the focal points in these. I lay great emphasis on visual impressions and, as I have already mentioned, on stickers in particular. I try to explore their role and their effects in making connections, and answer the questions why we can call them “visual footprints” and how they pollute the urban environment visually. As I explore all this, I seek to answer a big question: there are plenty of these small, uncontrollable visual signs - do they form a network or is there only chaos?
