The evolution of Népliget

From historical heritage to modern urban development

Népliget is the largest and biologically most diverse public park in Budapest. However, no development has taken place here for decades, which has led to a number of urban planning, social and financial issues. The aim of my research is to examine the historical development of Népliget, explore its current problems and describe its future opportunities. In addition to a historical overview, I analyse the relationship between the park and the surrounding urban areas, with a special focus on the modern urban development projects in its immediate vicinity. As part of the research, I interviewed a representative of a local NGO. With a comprehensive development strategy and sufficient funds, Népliget could once again play a central role in Budapest’s green infrastructure, making the city more liveable.
