Three paragraphs with Attila
My diploma project is an installation consisting of three video etudes, based on the material of an unfinished observational documentary. I was interested in the limits of cognition, the distance between me and the protagonist. How well can I get to know a person who lives in completely different living conditions? How does observation affect his life? During the process, I was only able to get fragments of the person I wanted to get to know, not a complete picture. My masterwork is based on these fragments and the questions mentioned above.

Where reality meets the author’s perspective
Subjectivity in observational documentaries
In my thesis I explore how the subjective perspective of the creator may appear in observational documentaries, where usually the aim is to be objective, and what options directors have to highlight or hide this in the film-making process. For this analysis, I first examine some general questions of the documentary genre. What is a documentary? What categories are there? How did the observational mode evolve? Based on these, I analyse the author’s presence and its impact, with a special focus on the subjects.
