The ecology of Lake Balaton – Sensitisation
My masterwork is design tableware that represents a critical approach and presents the current ecological processes in the system of Lake Balaton to make them visible and accessible using data physicalisation methodology. The set of objects also draws our attention to the fragility of our wider environment, the biosphere, and the importance of transcending our human-centred worldview.
thesis
Opportunities for ecological action in contemporary ceramics
In my thesis I explore the global eco-social challenges of the ceramics profession. I analyse the transformative impact of the ceramics industry on the biosphere, and the social causes and consequences of this, and I explore the opportunities for action in studio ceramics, design and autonomous art. I seek to answer the question how contemporary ceramics can be a part of the ecological transition and I identify the areas where the positive impact can be increased. I present Hungarian and European examples wherever possible, and in some cases examples from further away. I present a comprehensive, yet non-exhaustive material on this globally topical research area, which as yet has no literature published in Hungarian.
