MIRAGE

Mirage is a new media installation that depicts the communication processes of the people and teams behind Hungarian arena concerts. The light installation consists of 68 LED bars, which flash as two people ortwo teams communicate. The whole process of preparing a concert is mapped by these communication channels, looped on a timeline. The spatial network illustrates the complexity of the workflow and offers a peek behind the scenes. The book accompanying the installation aims to provide help in navigating the communication network. The title, Mirage, symbolises the spectacle of the concerts and draws attention to the mass entertainment and service aspects of the phenomenon. The work ofthe crew remains invisible to the crowd attending the concert, all that is available tothem is the dazzle ofthe music and the performer.

Stage design in the 20th and 21st centuries

The introduction and application of technological innovations in the stage design of pop concerts

In my thesis I explore the stage design of mainstream pop concerts. I provide an overview of the most important productions in history and discuss the current trends. I provide a detailed description of the concerts of Pink Floyd, U2 and Kanye West, and the works of the production designer Es Devlin. The thesis summarises the significance of concert stage design and the challenges of this profession.
