Cultural centre and community space at Kecskemét railway station
What is really missing from urban life in Kecskemét is a well-functioning, lively community space where people can connect, organise themselves, and learn about the events in the city. In my plan I found a place for this function in the operational, yet partially empty railway station: it has a great location, and it could easily become a part of the everyday life of the local residents. To the railway-related functions of the station building I added an exhibition space, an exhibition and coworking pavilion, a cafe and a youth community lounge. The railway station is the gate to the city, so I believe it is important for both the exterior and the interior to reflect the identity and vibe of the city. I wish to ensure this by using the works of local artists. In the central hall, I created a pavilion centred around Kecskemét, and next to that I would like to have temporary exhibitions by local artists. The community lounge could become the centre of the youth organisations in the city, a counterpart of the museum centre in the park in front of the station. The aim is to have people stop here instead of just passing through, or have them come here specifically to communicate. This could become the information centre of the city, a meeting place and a forum.

The revitalisation of towns through the creation of public spaces
Public spaces and the lack thereof in Kecskemét
My thesis focuses on the public spaces and community spaces in cities and towns outside of Budapest. I analyse three examples where such initiatives have been implemented, then I explore the situation in Kecskemét and provide a recommendation.
