At water level
My masterwork is data materialisation created as a series of rings, which allows us to feel, on our own skin, the data describing environmental change. The rings have an elegantly simple form and in their materials they incorporate a part of the delicate ecosystem of Lake Balaton. More specifically, they show the changes in the area and quality of the coastal reedbeds between 2003 and 2020. The jewellery is subject to wear and tear, but what is the bigger problem, human intervention or natural processes?

The semantic role of design in scientific communication
In my thesis I explore the significance of the semantic role of design, using the tools of applied semiotics. I look for a connection between scientific communication and the visualised, materialised products of the design process. I examine the meaning of semantics in the context of design and how it is manifested through data visualisation and data physicalisation in the communication of objects and jewellery. How can we make complex data systems more accessible when they are decipherable mostly by researchers or when contexts need to be explored along multiple dimensions? In short, how can we make the facts of the world exciting and sufficiently comprehensible for a wider population in the design of objects and the design of jewellery in particular?
