In my thesis I aim to find alternative visual perspectives to replace contemporary society’s material approach to the human body, mostly in philosophies rooted in history and through religious rituals and thoughts. I explore the possibilities of symbols related to the body in art, and their potential positive effects on the human psyche. When we project natural symbols on the body, this new, symbolic “layer” is integrated into self-confidence and improved body image. This extended self-image may increase empathy towards nature as well.
