Sheperd’s Purse

The Shepherd’s Purse is an open-source collection of activities and programmes that introduces 5-8-year-olds to the world of plants, presenting their unknown side through a series of sequential, experimental learning activities. The methodology used encourages children to learn about plants through hands-on experience, with particular attention to ecological relationships and their importance. Easy-to-comprehend illustrations help children understand the tasks, while a blanket, which you can fold into a bag, is a practical accessory for outdoor activities. The activity booklet, flashcards and blanket pattern can be downloaded online and used as an educational aid or for family activities.

How many shades of green?

The reinvention of our relationship with plants in the Anthropocene epoch through education

How many shades of green are there? When do we stop to explore the million shades of green around us in the plants we see in our day-to-day environments? Urbanisation has completely transformed the relationship between humans and their environment, including our relationship with plants. In our anthropocentric world we are facing increasingly serious environmental problems and we must adapt to changing conditions. Could sorting out this relationship help us create a more sustainable society? What role can plants play in such a precarious situation? The thesis provides an in-depth analysis of the relationships between humans and the environment and between humans and plants. It explores what attitudes people have and how neglected plants are. The aim is to reveal how an appreciation of plants can help us in the Anthropocene epoch, the era of environmental disasters, and how we can eventually integrate the results of the research into kindergarten-level education.
