Tools of Expression in New Cinematic Formats

The aim of my thesis is to examine the translatability of classical cinematic language elements into new motion picture formats. The tools of expression of traditional films were designed to tell a story most effectively within the boundaries of a given frame. When watching a movie made for a VR headset, this frame disappears, and space becomes visible in 360 degrees. This can increase the viewer's sense of immersion and make them feel part of the film's world surrounding them. However, this high degree of freedom poses many challenges for filmmakers. Directing attention becomes more difficult and the viewer may become distracted and miss the action. New storytelling and narrative methods are needed. 360 degree films need to completely rethink composition, editing, camera positioning, and directing actors. What can VR films take from traditional films? And what innovations can it carry out?
