My thesis seeks to understand to what extent the contemporary feminist reception of Park Chan-wook's The Handmaiden (2016) was appropriate for a film where the female protagonists, as demonstrated by my analysis, continue to be objectified and fetishised by the heteropatriarchal gaze.
