In my thesis I explore the methods and limits of non-narrative depiction in documentaries. Since the genre emerged, a number of theories have been created to categorise documentaries. In my thesis I analyse two films to explore what non-narrative documentaries are, how the traditional image of these documentaries evolved and what impact digitisation has on the genre of contemporary, non-narrative documentaries. I also discuss the characteristics of visual communication in this regard. I intend to include issues in my research that concern the boundaries between documentaries and avant-garde.
