My thesis is based on a threefold examination: discussing the past, present, and future of body modification. In the first section I provide examples of body jewellery from tribal and ancient empires, while the second section focuses on rediscovery and cultural reintegration. The third section showcases the innovations made possible by pioneers and our modern technology. In addition to social perception and societal roles, my research was also focused on the legitimacy of body modifications in contemporary jewellery design.
