Victor Vasarely's Influence on Contemporary Studio Glass
My thesis describes a detailed research on the work of Viktor Vasarely and its influence on contemporary Hungarian studio glass. My research primarily aims to prove Viktor Vasarely's claim that his work can be continued, and how this can be justified with contemporary studio glass art. The central element of my thesis is the interpretation of optical illusions and movements in Vasarely's work and the directions and legacy that Vasarely established in contemporary studio glass. The interpretation of the works discusses the technological and aesthetic background of glass art. Tangentially, my research touches on the complexity of human perception and the lack thereof. I explore the origins of op art, more specifically: kineticism, and how optical movements are converted into glass objects in the 21st century.
