The role of green areas in the concept of liveable cities

In my thesis I describe liveable cities – the definition provided by urban experts, their criteria and models – always bearing the concept of “ecological urbanism” in mind. I focus on the role and functions of urban nature, especially on designed green areas integrated into the urban fabric. I mention the strategy of nature-based design and present the design methods of ecologically sensitive landscape architecture. I look for the common denominator of these three areas, (urban) planning, landscape architecture and ecological thinking. Finally, I use criteria identified in literature to analyse two contemporary landscape architecture projects in Budapest.
