Boredom can be interpreted from various angles: in this thesis, I am going to limit the concept to the area of design, based on my own personal experience. I am interested in how design and boredom can interact in the design process and the theoretical approach alike. How does boredom as a mental state relate to an object that is boring? What makes an object boring? In my thesis I categorise the feeling of boredom as a positive emotion. I examine what makes an object boring based on, and with the help of, the three layers of emotional design.
