Museum as Exhibition
My masterwork titled Museum as an Exhibition examines the role of graphic design in the museum through an installation. The aim of my masterwork is to initiate a dialogue about the role of visual communication in the exhibition space. The graphic design of the exhibition entails the textual and visual aspects of internal and external communications materials; posters, banners, the institution's logo and related visual branding elements, signposting, and digital interfaces. On top of that, the publications, wall texts, and object labels related to the exhibition all form part of the graphic designer's duties. These not only define the visual appearance of the museum between its four walls, but also broadcast its identity to the wider environment. Can graphic design ever exceed its aesthetic role in the exhibition space? Should that happen, will we recognise the space as an exhibition space?

Museum as an exhibition
My thesis inspects the role of typography and design in exhibitions. I analyse current practices in Hungarian museums from the graphic designer's point of view, and also introduce examples from abroad. Exhibition graphic design entails the textual and visual aspects of internal and external communications materials; posters, banners, the institution's logo and related branding elements, signposting, and the website. On top of that, the publications, wall texts, and object labels related to the exhibition all form part of the graphic designer's duties. These not only define the visual appearance of the museum between those four walls, but also broadcast its identity to the wider environment. How does graphic design contribute to the museum experience and to the self-definition of a museum? How can typography be a tool for decolonisation, and how may we launch that dialogue in Central and Eastern Europe? Can graphic design ever exceed its aesthetic role in the exhibition space? Should that happen, will we recognise the space as an exhibition space?
