I dreamt with a treasure
The protagonist of my short film is Lina, a 12-year-old girl from a small village in the 'forsaken area' of northern Hungary. Her mother has moved west to try her luck abroad, and tries to maintain the mother-daughter relationship with video calls and packages sent home. The film narrates this personal story embedded into a wider social context with its wordlessness and the slow pace of frontier life: Lina unexpectedly finds a treasure that may be life changing in her impossible situation.

The significance of magical realism in post-1990 Central and Eastern European filmmaking
My thesis attempts to recognise a tradition that has become significant in the recent past in Central and Eastern European filmmaking. Magical realism in film (especially in a Central and Eastern European context) is not very well explored academically, notwithstanding its great popularity with the filmmakers in the region, especially with regards to the experience of an altered existence after the local political regime changes. My thesis explores the magical realist visual language through the lens of Central and Eastern European films, uncovering why it became a relevant artistic form of expression in the region.
