Daydreams & Nightmares
In the mood film titled Daydreams & Nightmares we concentrate on the psychological side of home care: the extremely difficult emotional experience that the carer and the patient share in this relationship. In our story a young girl looks after her grandmother. She would not like to reveal her fears, and tries to fill her grandmother's days with joy through little acts of kindness. At night, however, her anxieties loom large and take shape in a dream sequence. The scenes, captured on 35mm film, spirit us away into the happy yet melancholy world of weekdays, where even the present seems like a memory.

Analogue filming in the digital era
The majority of films today are shot on digital drives. However, analogue filmmaking has not disappeared: certain creators are only willing to shoot 35mm film. My thesis investigates what drives today's filmmakers to opt for analogue film as opposed to a digital format. The first half of my thesis introduces the two different technologies, followed by an analysis of image qualities characteristic of the analogue format. With the help of quotes by famous filmmakers, the second half of my thesis delves into the most frequently cited reasons for the use of analogue film.
