I Circle Back to Myself
Sustainability is not an individual concept, but a process that can be pursued endlessly. Perpetual change is the basis of any cycle. And the basis of change is the existence of a constant entity that undergoes the process and is able to revise some of its basic tenets, all the while seeking to return to the original version of itself. In my masterwork I have defined the phases of these changes within the system of fashion items. By defining the different phases of clothing, I have developed a unique system, which is presented through the clothing collection created for my masterwork.
thesis
The sartorial cycle
The pillar of my thesis is my own introspection as a designer. The willingness to self-reflect aids the in-depth understanding of the subject we are investigating, and as such may even seem self-serving. However, the actual investigation of this process as a fashion object is based on lived experience and information that I have gathered. I transcribe this approach into the methodology of autoethnography. The point of investigation is to experiment with new fashion design methodologies through the conceptualisation of earlier collections and designs being made now. I intend to position the sartorial object within a circular framework. Reflecting on the contemporary theories of circular fashion and economy, as well as the sartorial trade, I build the constant of my design attitude on the tradition of deconstruction within fashion. Perpetual change is the basis of any cycle. And the basis of change is the existence of a constant entity that undergoes the process and is able to revise some of its basic tenets, all the while seeking to return to the original version of itself. My thesis attempts to unfold the phases of this process through the theories of circular and perpetually changing systems. I define the possibilities of documenting this through the relationship between photography and fashion.
