The future of the Józsefváros Távválasztó (Long Distance Telecommunications) building is a sensitive issue for the residents in the neighbourhood. There is a fear that due to investment projects aiming to maximise the floor area, a tall residential building will be constructed in place of the open and airy urban space. The aim of my masterwork is to create an experimental and transitional intervention by establishing a community and cultural hub. In my design I support the operation of Nyolcésfél Arts Centre beyond its walls: by expanding its functions and creating pocket parks, I provide recreational urban space for the local residents.

Temporary Spaces
The interim uses of empty properties
The topic of my thesis is the temporary and adaptive reuse of unused properties in Budapest. I am looking for solutions on how to fill vacant, constantly deteriorating buildings with meaning and how to extend their life cycle. In the context of the location of my masterwork, I analyse the intermediate use of buildings in the capital. I am seeking to explore the possibilities that transitional architecture offers in terms of function, materials, and spatial use.
