THE OUTCASTS

The education of 'deviant' students with progressive pedagogical methods

In my thesis, I examine the educational needs of non-normative students, often referred to with negative connotations. I attempt to prove that these children are not disruptive forces, but often very gifted students who are unfortunately not always managed in a way that meets their needs within the framework of public education. My extensive literature research has led me to conclude that special education methods seem to be the best solution to this challenge. First, I outline the various approaches, tools and alternatives for dealing effectively with children with special needs, and then, building on a constructivist approach to education, I create my own design-teaching methodology. In my previous Master’s thesis (MA in Fashion Design), I investigated the relationship between artificial intelligence and fashion design. I collaborated with a programmer-mathematician to create a design program that uses computer algorithms to generate 2D visual designs to inspire fashion design students. I have also successfully used the design program as a professional-pedagogical innovation in the development of my pedagogical methodology and in my examination teaching.
