Due to the energy crisis and the simultaneous strengthening of environmental consciousness, consumer demand for alternative heating solutions has increased. As a designer and creator, my goal and response is to contribute to the environmentally conscious heating solutions available in the market by designing a small-sized, easily assembled, cost-effective ceramic stove with an eco-combustion chamber that takes local considerations into account. The design process was preceded by my own research and development of source materials, resulting in construction and design innovations to be incorporated, and enhancing the efficient operation of the stove.

Sustainable design in the time of an energy crisis
Innovation proposals for heating

Reflecting on the emergency situation caused by the energy crisis, my thesis explores potential innovations in the primarily wood fuel based heating industry. With the combination of various renewable energy sources, sustainable development, and an analysis of modern alternative heating devices, I introduce the most innovative heating options currently available. I conducted my research along four self-appointed pillars (sustainability, environmental consciousness, affordability and performance). According to these criteria, organic and ecological fuel combustion chambers have proved the most sustainable. Based on my thesis research, I can conclude that there is an increased need for alternative heating options. Accordingly, the goal of my graduation project is to design a heating stove with an alternative eco-combustion chamber. Taking location into account, it could offer an ideal solution on the heating stove market.
