Fly Tram

My masterwork is a vehicle concept: the hybrid of a tram and a cable car. that uses existing railway infrastructure. It operates as a tram within the city and reaches the less easily accessible suburbs through a cableway system. Capitalising on the fast installation and cost-effective infrastructure of the cableway system, it allows for rapid network development.

Recycled public transport

My thesis aims to illustrate perspectives on developing the aging transportation infrastructure and concepts in large European cities. My hypothesis, that the key to liveable future cities lies in the public transportation methods of the last century, rests on a realisation that the transport achievements of pre-WWII metropolises largely correspond to the goals of contemporary urbanism. The word “recycling” in the title refers to the entirety of public transportation: in the second half of the 20th century it gradually deteriorated and was looked down upon, but in contemporary urbanism it is being revived and re-evaluated. The point of my research was to support a thesis, the aim of which is to design a public transportation vehicle that either reinterprets an existing piece of infrastructure, or places an older, location specific mode of transport into a new context. Both my future design concept and my thesis, focus on urbanist, technical, and design solutions that fit into the future visions of large European cities (up until 2050).
