There is something new under the sun lounger

Is it still possible to come up with new things? In my masterwork I designed an experimental collection of objects using the components of the widely known "City Park" bench. My aim was to create as many new, surprising, funny, or absurd variations as possible, approaching the search for novelty and the act of designing itself with a critical mind. I present the completed variations using different mediums such as drawings, photographs, and models, creating an exhibition out of them.

Reinterpretation

Re-imagining objects as an experimental design strategy

My thesis focuses on the subject of reinterpretation. My research seeks to find out how and when the practice of reinterpretation appeared in art. Why did creators re-imagine existing objects and artworks, and how did they use them in their own oeuvre? I present works of fine art and design, and inspect the creative decisions beyond the objects. I conclude that since the start of the 20th century the practice of reinterpretation has played an even increasing role, and continues to be popular today. Beyond creating new objects, as designers we must also focus on existing items. By using the tools of experimental design we can uncover a new side of existing objects by using them as building blocks. In addition to studying relevant works from both general literature and technical literature, I also used articles and videos from the internet, and built on my own personal experiences.
