Land Users

a scale experiment of survival strategies

"I have designated the former Soviet barracks of Szentkirályszabadja as the location for my masterwork. Due to the size of the site, I employed a design methodology that allowed me to examine the location and shape the programme across multiple scales. I transformed the existing areas into green agricultural spaces and supporting built environments, activating the new, alternative social life of the model settlement. I redesigned the spatial conditions underneath the buildings to accommodate the needs of the community and production, enabling agriculture, knowledge sharing, and social activities. The existing buildings would undergo small interventions and extensions, expanding with a toolkit that can grow, shrink, and adapt according to needs or seasonal variations. The toolkit serves as a solution to create simple and activity-specific spaces within the buildings."

Former Soviet barracks as an alternative Hungarian settlement network

In my thesis, I examine the former Soviet barracks in Hungary as an uncharted architectural and urban heritage. My goal is to explore the possibility of creating an alternative domestic network of settlements and examine it as an architectural, urbanistic, and social utopia. As part of my theoretical research, I aim to map out the possibilities of ownership, sustainability, and sociological models in this context. My thesis serves as the theoretical foundation for my masterwork, in which I envision the former Soviet barracks as a network, a new type of settlement activated by a community, and as an educational model settlement.
