PADka (BENCHlet)

My masterwork aims to achieve a contemporary adaptation of local craftsmanship by recontextualising its inherent potential and value for designers and users alike. Adapting the design approach to local characteristics is not a new idea: in architecture, critical regionalism builds on local features, criticising the universal nature of modern architecture. The little bench was born as a sort of adaptation of this movement, aiming to not only revitalize the classic furniture, but also to highlight the possibilities of working with corn husk.

Folklore at the heart of local production

The current status of artisanship in Ciuc County, Romania

My thesis presents the current situation of local artisanship through the example of the artisan and handicraft industry in the Transylvanian county of Hargita. The starting point is the development of production activities and their effect on folk culture. My research sheds light on the dangers of traditions placed into a new context, while also highlighting the importance of uncovering the values within said traditions.
