Isle Inne / storytelling installation, illustrations, and objects

Inne is an imaginary island somewhere in the middle of the sea, whose inhabitants embody values and internal conflicts that are familiar to many of us. My masterwork is a proposal for a series of artworks that revolve around a fictional story about the island. Each piece is presented to the audience through different platforms such as art exhibitions, installations placed in hospitality venues, and illustrations shared on social media. Each medium reveals something different about the story, allowing for various ways to experience and immerse oneself in the fiction. What impact does transmediality have on the audience? How does a person's relationship to an object change when a 'magical' narrative is associated with the object? Can reality be re-evaluated or reinterpreted for the audience through a story that blends elements of fiction and reality? As part of my diploma project, I will execute 8 illustrations and one installation from the proposed art projects, aiming to find answers to the aforementioned questions.

thesis

Identifying tools that develop the imagination inspired by works of art that promote active recipient behaviour

With the ever increasing pace of life, any activities an average adult does that develop the imagination or prompt its playful application usually end up on the back burner. In response to this, my thesis examines works and genres of fiction that promote the use of active imagination even among an adult audience, thereby positively affecting their lives and mental health (Tiny Doors, films by Hayao Miyazaki, BTS Universe). The conclusion identifies general tools and techniques (such as soft worldbuilding, transmedia storytelling, atmosphere creation and using physical objects to convey narrative fiction) that enable these creations to engage the imagination and prompt interactions. Finally, I demonstrate how I intend to consciously apply these tools as a creative professional going forward.
