Fabula Fur Fashion Collection

My masterwork was inspired by my personal love of nature and animals. I created a fur fashion collection with the fables of LA Fontaine in mind. Created with elaborate detail and craftsmanship worthy of the value, aesthetics, and animal provenance of the materials used (primarily leather and fur), an experimental collection was born using innovative technological solutions and resulting in an intensive visual experience. Human and animal are intricately intertwined in the clothes - both in a physical sense and in terms of the world of fables that carries zoo-symbolism within itself.

The dilemmas facing the fashion and fur industries

In the past couple of hundred years humans have alienated themselves from nature, which has drastically impacted the human-animal bond. Consequently, processing methods and use of real animal fur have become a controversial issue, which is always in the crosshairs. The complex questions surrounding the fur trade, be they ethical, moral, legal, political, economic or environmental, pose a significant dilemma to most people. The goal of my thesis is to dissect these issues, investigate the reasons behind their emergence, and above all, attempt to resolve the dilemma. Among other things, my thesis analyses the human-animal bond throughout history, the workings of the fur trade, issues of animal welfare, the ideological background of animal protection movements, alternatives to animal fur, and other factors that influence public discourse about real fur, such as the impact of media and ecological trends.
