Bamana
The Bamana project, supporting volunteer organisations, is a creative endeavour that helps volunteers returning from African soil process their unique experiences through art. As a product designer my goal is to create a creative process for community application. I have found ceramics to be suitable for this purpose, and I aim to design an adaptive methodology and toolkit for it. The Bamana project can support the processing of intense volunteer experiences at an individual level. Additionally, it can enhance the effectiveness of organisations and contribute to the successful implementation and continuity of projects by supporting human resources and fostering emotional well-being.
thesis
Humanitarian development in Mali
Through the work of three organisations
The questions posed in this thesis examine the methods, goals and target audiences of healthcare focused projects within the work of humanitarian organisations. The empirical research section was conducted using qualitative research methods. I conducted interviews with leaders of a child protection organisation operating in Mali, and various Hungarian and Malian organisations. These interviews informed the questions of my research, and subsequently, my graduation project. Education and healthcare go hand in hand in the projects that I examined. There is a definitive emphasis on humanitarian aid for women and children. The fact that the projects are process oriented is part of my thesis findings. Leaders envision sustainability through long-term collaboration. In addition to knowledge transfer, community participation is also part of the humanitarian projects. As a ceramics designer, I aimed to find a link between ceramics design and humanitarian aid. Working with clay, a soft and highly malleable material, can encourage participants to make their own decisions. The individual's skills improve while creating three-dimensional objects showcasing personal experiences of the trip to Africa.
