The Youth Never Had It So Good'
Ideology, Visual Identity, and the Concept of Youth in Youth Magazine
In my thesis, I examine the visual transformations of the Hungarian magazine Ifjúsági Magazin (Youth Magazine). My hypothesis suggests that there were significant social, political, and cultural transformations behind these changes. I explore these factors by examining what led to the magazine's transition to a tabloid format and its eventual discontinuation in 2015. I describe youth culture during the socialist era and the role Youth Magazine played during that time. I examine the stylistic (visual and conceptual) transformations of the magazine and seek explanations for them in the technological innovation and the changing era. I pay special attention to the situation of young women, given that the magazine was specifically aimed at them in its final decades.
