It is a general characteristic of Western society that it is emotionally reserved and underdeveloped. There are certain topics and emotional amplifications that we tend to avoid discussing or experiencing openly, and this can generate deep-seated frustration. In my thesis, I examine this phenomenon in the representation of experiencing motherhood, and aspects related to the role of the mother, through the creations of contemporary female photographers and visual artists.
