Depicting the Atmosphere of Silence in Motion Pictures
In my thesis, I examine the role of silence in motion pictures, its various devices of cinematic depiction, and the relationship between sound (noise) and silence. My aim is twofold: firstly, to showcase the techniques that enable the perception of silence through the use of sounds; secondly, to summarise the tendencies and directions related to this approach. To expand on my theory, I analyse works by László Nemes, Alfred Hitchcock, Szilárd Bernáth, and John Krasinski.
