THE HOUSING PROBLEM OF YOUNG ADULTS
The focal area of my thesis is the housing crisis of young adults, which I analyse from the perspective of social housing. What are the focal points that are important for an architect to consider when designing such a building? The location of my study is a social housing apartment building in the heart of Budapest, specifically in Józsefváros, at Práter Street 30-32, which I scrutinise in detail. In my thesis, I also addressed the immediate housing options currently available for young adults studying in higher education during or after their studies. I also had conversations with the former architect designers regarding the Práter Street building. I concluded that for an architect, the quality of building materials is a crucial factor to consider in projects like this. In addition to the materials, it is important to pay attention to the orientation of the building's facade openings in order to reduce electricity consumption for cooling and heating purposes and to maximise the enjoyment of the positive energy of natural sunlight. Creating the floor plan, it is important to prioritise maximum floor space and a practical layout, as we are mostly dealing with small square footage.
