The title of my thesis (Back to the Roots) refers to a return to craftsmanship, its significance and artistic merit, which I aim to explore through the British Studio Pottery Movement. This movement beautifully demonstrates that alongside traditional handcrafted forms, contemporary studio pottery pieces (that can often be considered works of art) will sooner or later also play an important role. The practice of ancient traditional techniques and forms of craftsmanship gradually unfolded into modernist British ceramics.
